Frequently asked questions

What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

Pricing for Hardwood Flooring can vary greatly. Everything is priced by the square foot, but various jobs require different approaches. Flooring is split into four categories: new install and finish, pre-finish/engineered install, refinishing, and staircases. The most significant variant in any bid is the cost of materials, especially for new installs.

What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

Generally, every job starts with an initial bid. It is best to see the job first before anything begins. It is a matter of measuring and looking for anything that might need extra attention, such as water damage, board replacement, a squeaking floor, etc. All issues can be addressed, but it's best to figure them out beforehand. It also gives us a chance to work out what the customer wants/needs. That way, we are able to work together to achieve their goals.

What education and training do you have that relates to your work?

Rest assured, each of our owners/workers is a seasoned professional with over twenty years of experience. We all began our careers at reputable companies, gaining valuable knowledge and skills. Our apprenticeships were completed over thirteen years ago, and since then, we have dedicated ourselves to perfecting our craft as journeyman craftsmen.

How did you get started doing this type of work?

Each owner started differently. One was fresh out of college and looking to support their family. The other got into the trade with the influence of a family member. Both fell in love with the work and have been doing it ever since.

What types of customers have you worked with?

Our experience spans from hundred-year-old homes to million-dollar houses, showcasing our versatility and adaptability to diverse customer needs. Whether it's refinishing a downtown loft or installing flooring in a suburban home, our jobs vary from week to week and person to person. With fifteen years of experience, we've encountered a wide range of scenarios. If it involves hardwood floors, rest assured, we can handle it.

Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

There was a recent project we did that we like to call a "Game Changer." These are typically older houses that have hardwood flooring throughout the entire house. You will see this a lot in older homes because they had to have it to get the house up to code. Typically, it is also good-quality wood, so it looks excellent when freshly stained and coated. Most customers don't even know it's there until they look. I personally went out to bid on a floor for a customer who wanted all-new hardwoods installed. One peak at the house, and I knew that I needed to look under the carpet first. Sure enough, he had hardwood flooring going throughout the entire first floor of his home, and he never knew it before. Needless to say, he was able to save quite a bit of money by not buying all new material. It made my day seeing him happy with the finished project and also saving him some money along the way.

What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

The most important thing to look for in any contractor is experience in the job they are trying to sell. Many jobs are sold by salesmen who have never done the job before. When someone is inexperienced in what they need to be looking for, a lot gets missed.

What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?

Prior to seeking bids, it's crucial for customers to have a clear understanding of their project goals. This clarity allows for more accurate quotes and informed decision-making. While it's advisable to obtain multiple quotes for different scenarios, each bid should be itemized to provide a transparent view of the costs involved.
